My First Handmade Garment

Over the weekend I was in the British Red Cross and spotted a pair of curtains with a autumnal floral pattern. I decided to get them to practice my garment making, as so far I've only been making things for the home, eg blankets. I got both curtains for £4, and spent that afternoon drafting my own pattern and getting to work!
I lay a t-shirt onto the fabric, and cut around it making sure I left a seam allowance. I planned on adding sleeves, but ended up with a sleeveless top as I didn't want it to be too bunchy under cardigans (and lets face it, I didn't want to sew in sleeves).
When designing the top, I wanted to have a cropped top, with a gathered bottom, hoping it would create a flattering fit (and let me eat lots at Sunday dinner without anyone noticing)! I underestimated how much space I'd need for the bust, resulting in a rather tight and uneven fit, but it isn't so bad that I can't wear it. Next time I'll leave enough space to add darts and fit comfortably in it.
The gathers I added also turned out quite uneven, but I don't really mind, as it was my first time making something to wear, and I can wear it! So I'm pretty proud.
Here is the finished garment - I still have another curtain left so expect to see this fabric pop up again soon!
